Nintendo Wii Review After waiting for new stock to arrive, the Nintendo Wii seemed to be constantly out of stock at many outlets, I purchased the entry level system that included the Wii Sports game. For a price of £179.99 the Wii is an excellently priced system for what is in theory “new” technology to the UK games player. It could easily have had an extra £100 on the price tag and due to the hype and advertising would still have sold. The little white box looks good and the components feel sturdy, which is lucky as the remote soon swiped a drinks glass off the sofa arm during a very hectic tennis game! Beware of the space required. The system is easy to set up and with the introduction Sports game included; you are ready to play within minutes with no complicated instructions, which is what you want. With a quick remote guide before each game, you are soon the next Wimbledon champion or working out the wind speed and direction for your next golf tee shot. As you work through the games, prepare yourself for the boxing! The remote signal is sent to the main station via a sensor which sits on top of the TV and seemed to pick up 98% of your movements, as long as you are within distance of the sensor. Yes, the graphics can seem a little dated and unrealistic (in the boxing you have no arms, just gloves!) and the remote lends itself to mainly sports and sword play type games but with the introduction of new games at all age levels, this is still a very different system to purchase. Like all games stations, you can easily get bored with the repetitiveness of the play but at least with the Wii, depending on how much effort you exert, you could still end up with aching limbs and a very sweaty brow, like a “play” work out in the home. Got to be better than sitting on your backside shooting at things at and pushing buttons to steer your car!
